Lunar New Year Nagomi Art Session for Caregiver Volunteers

Caregivers and staff displaying their Nagomi Art pieces

In the spirit of Lunar New Year, CAL held a Nagomi Art session for caregivers and staff at the CAL office.

CAL’s Community Outreach Manager Kathleen Chia, who is certified by the Japan Pastel Hope Art Association, taught everyone about the therapeutic beauty of the art form. Using fingers and soft pastels, each participant drew their interpretations of mandarin oranges and flowers. Caregivers were told not to worry about their artistic abilities or lack of experience, as Nagomi Art is less about focusing on the finished product, and more about enjoying the creative process.

Lining up the results of a relaxing creative process

At the end of the session, there was a flurry of excitement when the art pieces were laid out and admired by all. We are delighted that the participants enjoyed this time of joyful learning – and now have a new hobby for self-care!
