#YOLO2020 Campaign Updates

The #YOLO2020 hike to Everest Base Camp in May 2020 has been postponed due to COVID-19. With Nepal’s temporary halt on issuing tourist visas and permits to climb Everest, it is no longer feasible to hold the trip during this year’s spring climbing season.

In the current climate of uncertainty and precautions, we believe this decision is responsible and prudent. It was not an easy decision to make, and came after weeks of deliberation over the health and safety of those going and others they might have come into contact with. Throughout the process, the team continued to train hard in preparation, still committed to the cause.

We are glad to announce that this temporary setback does not mean the end of the #YOLO2020 campaign. A team of hikers will now be going in November 2020, and a second team in April 2021. Team CAL will likely be part of the second trip.

Zalifah, a hiker from CAL, compared this disappointment to the journey with her loved one: “It’s the same as how we can plan and hope for the best for our loved ones, but it doesn’t always work out the way that we intended. But we just have to keep trying, and stay positive.”

The team have compiled their thoughts and motivations for being part of this journey. View their posts and advocacy efforts on the #YOLO2020 Team CAL website: http://yolo2020cal.iblogger.org/

With more time for the hikers to train and prepare, we hope you will continue to support #YOLO2020. Please donate to enable CAL to support many more caregivers. Make your donations here.
