CAL x Silver Generation Office: Advocating the Importance of Self-Care

Caring for an aging population is a topic of concern in Singapore. Some caregivers may have to leave their jobs and set aside their aspirations to care for their loved ones full-time. Without adequate support, these caregivers may experience stress and burnout.

To help some of their beneficiaries who are caregivers, the Silver Generation Office (SGO)’s Jurong Satellite Office invited CAL to speak on the importance of self-care. The event was a Lunar New Year lunch to thank their Silver Generation Ambassadors (SGAs) for their contributions. These volunteers meet up with seniors at their homes and at community places, and assess their needs such as explaining government schemes or connecting them to support resources.

CAL’s Community Outreach Manager Kathleen Chia touched on coping strategies to avoid burnout, and shared on how CAL can help seniors and their families. A total of 103 SGAs attended the event, and many were glad to know that those they serve can look to CAL as a support resource.
