The inaugural TTT course for C2C Dementia concludes successfully

Held over four weekly sessions in July, the first ever Train-the-Trainer (TTT) course for C2C Dementia was held from 3 to 24 July 2019. There were a total of 14 participants, largely comprising volunteer caregivers of persons with dementia who had graduated from their respective C2C Dementia classes. As the C2C Dementia programme is new, many staff also chose to attend in order to learn how to conduct the course.

Participants were taken through in-depth insights into dementia, ways to deal with challenging behaviour of loved ones with dementia, and how to effectively convey this knowledge to other caregivers.

Many commented that the training sessions were conducted in a creative manner, with ample time for group discussions. With a small but cosy group size, the TTT course was notable in that it had a 100% attendance rate for every session – a heartening indicator of the interest that the C2C Dementia is garnering.

This first TTT course for C2C Dementia is important because it is the stepping stone towards a true caregiver-led programme. Now that the newly-trained volunteers are ready to support future C2C Dementia programmes as volunteer trainers or support leaders, they will be able to pass on their experiences and share their stories with other caregivers of persons with dementia. This is the reason that C2C is called the ‘Caregivers-to-Caregivers’ Training Programme.

As our population ages, psycho-education to teach caregivers how to care for their loved ones with dementia will become more and more important. Do tell your friends and family about our new dementia programme so that they too can benefit.
