On the 13th and 14th October 2018, caregivers were treated to a weekend of reminiscence and engagement with other caregivers at Chinatown Heritage Centre in an CAL event titled ‘Those Were The Days’. Besides being able to tour the museum to see displays of Chinatown in the 1950s, including a painstakingly reconstructed shophouse and immigrant living quarters, caregivers also enjoyed classic songs played live by a local band, Chain Reaction. There was also an origami workshop and old school games in line with the theme of remembering the past. The event is significant as it was the first collaborative event with Chinatown Heritage Centre, and marks the first in a series of caregiver engagement activities to be held there.
In addition, ‘Those Were The Days’ was a chance for caregivers to see CAL’s newly opened Oasis room at Chinatown Heritage Centre for the first time. In the future, this Oasis room, located conveniently in the heart of the city, will serve as a safe space for weary caregivers to get away from the challenges of daily caregiving. It can be used for meet-ups, counselling or simply as a place to take a quiet moment of rest.
We welcome you to look out for more engagement activities at Chinatown Heritage Centre. If you would like to know more about CAL’s Oasis project, you may call us to enquire about it.
